Terminology

Acclimation
A process allowing your hardwood floor to become accustomed to it's new environment. 

Air Dried
Wood dried by exposure to air, in a yard or shed without artificial heat.  Not kiln dried.

Annual Growth Ring
The layer of wood growth including spring and summer wood, formed on a tree during a single growing season.

Micro Bevel Edge/V Groove
Wood flooring with a micro bevel edge gives each board definition because the edges of the board are slightly rounded. Giving your flooring a classy finish.

Burl
A swirl or twist in the grain of the wood usually occuring near a knot, but does not contain a knot, commonly found in the stump of a tree and where limbs branch out from the tree.

Check
A legthwise seperation of the wood that usually extends accross the rings of annual growth.  Commonly resulting from stress set up during the air or kiln drying process.

Cleat
A barbed fastener commonly used with a mechanical device to fasten hardwood flooring.

Colour Change
Visual changes in the colour of the wood due to exposure to light, deprivation to air and light or a chemical reaction.

Deciduous
All hardwood flooring is from deciduous trees, meaning they loose their leaves in the Fall, allowing the wood to become hard.
